Red Bull Soapbox Race Social

The Red Bull Soapbox Race is coming back to Atlanta!

The high-energy, non-motorized fun will take place on North Ave on October 24, 2015, so mark your calendar for a good time. I saw the race when it was here in 2012, and North Ave has much better hills than 10th Street, so I’m looking forward to plenty of entertainment.

Here are the deets:

The Red Bull Soapbox Race is a national event for amateur drivers racing homemade soapbox vehicles. Each hand-made machine is fueled by creativity and competitive fun – not to mention the need for speed. This unique, non-motorized racing event challenges both experienced racers and amateurs alike to design and build outrageous, human-powered soapbox dream machines and compete against the clock in a downhill race.

The South’s most innovative and witty teams will race each other down the twists and turns of North Avenue on the 24th of October. Those keen will need to show their commitment, creativity and some imaginative flair, to get entries in by August 1, 2015.

Check out this video for footage of what it’s like. This is from Los Angeles:

Pretty fun, huh?

The Atlanta winner from 2012, SweetWater Brewery, hosted a social for Red Bull last night. I was invited by Caren West PR, and the whole night, people kept asking my friend and I if we were going to participate in the actual race, to which I replied #nope.

I’ll attend the race and cheer people on, but I’ve got zero plans to build a car and get behind the wheel! Are y’all crazy?

I will, however, clamber into the winning vehicle and make myself good and comfortable. Here’s my friend Robyn and I, wind in our hair, legs in the air:

That ride is super sweet, featuring SweetWater’s logo and tagline of “don’t float the mainstream”.

Good luck to the 50 teams who will be chosen to compete this year!

Remember, if you want to toss your hat into the ring, you’ve 23 days left (as of the time of this writing) to submit your application.

May the Red Bull gods give you wings.
