If there’s one thing I love, it’s a good home tour.
Feeling welcomed into beautiful homes and finding inspiration in the tastes and quirks of others is a lot of fun for me.
Atlanta features several home tours (Inman Park, Castleberry, Druid Hills, JLA, to name a few), but my favorite by far is the one offered by Modern Atlanta each summer during Design is Human week.
I particularly like Modern Atlanta’s tour because you’re not merely peeking into beautiful houses and mansions; you are stepping inside homes that are showcases for innovative design, homes that fuse functionality with badass-ness.
Modern Atlanta annually hosts Design Is Human week, which celebrates new trends in cutting-edge architecture and design, modernity, sustainability, social responsibility, and contemporary culture happening in Atlanta and the southeast region.
Now in its 8th successful year, Design Is Human Week runs through June 1-8, with speaker events, showcases, and networking events, culminating with this weekend’s home tour, which as of this year has been re-named an Architectural Tour.
Architectural Tour is a befitting description for the houses featured on this tour. You see, these houses aren’t merely decorated to be pretty; everything from the structure to the adornments radiates bold, clean, contemporary design.
Be sure to check it out this Saturday and Sunday; I promise you will leave very inspired.
I am not a designer by trade. But every time I leave a Modern Atlanta event, of which there are several, I always feel so inspired to be creative.
If you want to learn more about Modern Atlanta, you should attend tonight’s launch party; not only are there refreshments and light bites, you can browse some of the fresh designs with particular inspiration from Copenhagen this year. You can also get discounted tickets to the Architectural Tour!
I attended the preview night on Wednesday, here are some of the delights you’ll see tonight:
Here are some of my favorite pics from the Architectural Tour! Starting with some home decor accents.
Can you imagine having this view?
This dining room table was incredible. Who would think to add cogs and gears to the spine of a table?
The Mr and I captured a quick selfie in the reflection of a cool lighting concept.
I love a big, basin sink, especially one dripping with so much style.
They call Atlanta a city in the trees… with this view, I’m sure you see why.
Hello there. 😉
This patio fireplace also had a pizza oven, which fits perfectly into my backyard fantasy.
I’m digging this bold art piece surrounded by muted furnishings.
I can’t wait to have a standalone bathtub!
And this pic looks a little strange because it’s a panorama, attempting to show the skylights above the shower.
The deck and its furnishings are perfect for relaxing after a day’s work, and the electric firepit in the middle keeps things comfortable in all seasons.
The writer in me loves this vintage typewriter.
Do you see why I find home tours so inspiring and satisfying?!
Special thanks to Bernard McCoy and the team at Modern Atlanta for putting on such a consistently stellar program and providing such an engaging discussion about design.
Truly helping to keep Atlanta on the design forefront.
