Creative Loafing’s Iconic Best of Atlanta Celebration is coming to Terminal West! The Tuskegee Airmen, the first cadet graduates to earn their wings 75 years ago at Tuskegee, becoming the first black U. S. Army Air Corps pilots, have a rich history that begins in WWII but reaches far beyond those confines. In conjunction with the celebration of the accomplishments of the Tuskegee Airmen, the weekend will also place a focus on the accomplishments of all African-American pilots from WWII to the present.
The Commemorative Air Force Dixie Wing will assemble at Dekalb-Peachtree Airportall the type of airplanes flown by the Tuskegee Airmen. Along with other famous aircraft such as a FG-1D Corsair, SBD-5 Dauntless dive bomber, T-6 Texan, C-46, Stearman bi-planes, Douglas DC-3 and after four years a B-17 Flying Fortress will offer rides and cockpit tours.
Meet WWII Veterans and noted authors, attend a WWII 8th Air Force Fighter Mission Briefing, enjoy 1940’s Hollywood entertainers, visit with WWII reenactors, participate in a photography workshop and attend a dinner symposium with the original Tuskegee Airmen at the 57th Fighter Group restaurant on Saturday evening.
Celebrate diversity at the Atlanta Pride Festival. Atlanta Pride Festival, the largest pride festival in the Southeast, returns to Piedmont Park each October following National Coming Out Day.
The highlight of the Atlanta Pride Festival for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender persons is the Pride Parade on Saturday, which goes up Peachtree Street to Piedmont Park.

Join Historic Oakland Foundation for the 10th annual Run Like Hell 5K! The largest cemetery run in the country, Run Like Hell is one of Atlanta’s favorite neighborhood 5K fundraisers.
Run Like Hell is a Peachtree Road Race qualifier. The race begins at Lion Square and covers several areas of Oakland Cemetery, including the historic Jewish grounds, Confederate section, new Beaumont Allen Greenhouse, Hogpen Corner, Knit Mill, and Roger’s Hill, as well as the Memorial Drive Greenway to the state capitol. The keyhole course is entirely paved and gently rolling with soft turns, a much faster course than previous years!
Walkers, leashed dogs, and strollers are welcome. The race closes out at 1,600 participants, so be sure to register early!
The Festival on Ponce is an Atlanta arts and crafts festival set in the historic park, Olmsted Linear Park. Visitors will enjoy the gorgeous landscape designed by one of America’s most celebrated landscape architects, Fredrick Olmsted Sr. along with over 125 displays of fine arts and crafts, folk and “outsider art”. In addition to the fine arts, there will be a children’s area and local food and beverage. Attendance is Free.
The Castleberry Hill Neighborhood Association is proud to announce the much-anticipated date for the 2017 Castleberry Hill Loft Tour. This year’s Loft Tour will be held October 14th from 11am – 5pm throughout this Historic + Art District, named one of the Top 10 Art Districts in the country.
Attendees of the Loft Tour will have an intimate look into hand-selected lofts that were once 20th century warehouses and production plants for numerous industries. These lofts vary in style and size, decorated and designed with diverse taste and budgets. No two units are alike!
